Cabin air filter replacement - Volvo S70 1998
Many of the S70 cars have a cabin air filter. Some 850's have them as
well. These filters help keep dirt, dust, and even odors out of the
cabin (if you have the charcoal filter). These filters should be
replaced yearly. If you are not sure if you have one in your car, take a
peak. They can be removed but I suggest that you keep them in because
they also keep dirt out of the cabin fan. When we purchased this S70,
the filter was so dirty that I am surprised the cabin was getting any
outside air at all. Had to be a strain on the fan. Anyway, replace them
yearly. I installed on in my 850 T-5R that did not have one. I had to
order the filter housing and install it before the filter. Here are the
simple instructions. Takes about 15 minutes.
Found this filter in a car the other day. It can get
this bad if not replaced regularly.
Tools Needed:
T-25 Torque screw driver |
Pliers |
Instructions:
-
Open the hood.
-
It would be a good idea to open the hood all the
way open. Pivot the hinge stops to allow the hood to open 90
degrees.
-
Remove the 2 T-25 screws closest to the edge of
the car.
NOTE: If you are installing a
filter box, it may be helpful to remove the third screw in as
well.
-
Take the air vent pipe loose. This one did NOT
have a squeeze clamp. The one on my 850 did.
-
Lift up on the plastic that covers the air
filter.
-
Replace the filter. Make sure you get the filter
aligned in the box properly and clip the front edge.
-
Close the plastic that hides the filter. Make
sure you close the edge that meets with the finder edge.
-
Install the air hose.
-
Install the 2 T-25 torque screws. Just snug them
down so you do not strip the plastic fasteners.
