Door Panel Removal for Volvo 850 - Mirror Replacement
These instructions are provided to show you how to remove the door
panel and avoid damaging things. It's a easy job that I did to replace
the door mirror. The panel can be removed in 10 minutes, the mirror can
be replaced in
about 30 minutes.
Tools / Equipment Needed:
Torque Screw Driver |
Phillips Screw Driver |
T-30 Torque Bit |
T-25 Torque Bit |
T-15 Torque Bit |
Pliers |
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Open the door.
- Pull off the door panel insert just above the opening handle. I
just pulled on the forward edge loose and worked my way back from
the top. It has 3 clips.
- Remove the 2 screws behind that door panel. They are T-30.
- Pull off the door speaker grill. I worked it loose from the rear
edge. The clips are plastic so be careful not to jerk it off at to
much of an angle, you may break a clip.
- Remove the lower forward speaker screw. It is about 3 inches
long and holds the door panel on.
- Remove the 4 screw along the bottom of the panel. They are T-25.
- Remove the 1 screw along the lower front edge. It is plastic and
is a standard #2 Phillips tip. Once you get the screw out you can
take the screw sleeve out as well. Kinda like a push in pop rivet.
- Pull up on the door handle that is used to open the door. Pull
hard and it will slide off of the metal part of the latch under it.
- Now you can remove the panel lifting from the bottom, clearing
the handle, locking button, and top edge that hooks on the window
seal.
NOTE: Be careful because the speaker wires are
connected to the speaker.
- Disconnect the speaker wires, they just pull off.
- If you are going to remove the mirror, remove the plastic cover
that hide the mirror screws.
NOTE: Be careful because the cover is plastic
and probably brittle. I pulled the top out just a little, then the
lower forward edge. Once those 2 areas are loose it will pull away
from the door without damage (breaking the clips).
- Remove the 3 screws that hold the mirror on. T-25
- Unplug the mirror wires.
