Sunroof removal on a Volvo 960
These instructions will show you how to remove the glass on a 1997 Volvo 960. Takes around 5 minutes to remove, about 15 minutes to re-install.
Tools Needed:

- Slide the sunroof shade back.
- Turn the car on and tilt the sunroof up (the back of the sunroof).
- Remove the screw covers on both sides of the inside of the
sunroof so you can have easy access to the screws that secure the glass in place.
The covers simply pull off inward. They have 3 post clips (in
yellow). To avoid breaking the clips, put your finger behind the
clips and press them through while you pull the cover off.
- Remove 2 screws from each side of the roof and it will lift off (in red).
Installation Instructions:
- Set the sunroof in place.
- Start the 4 screws that hold it on the tracks.
NOTE: Do not tighten the screws yet. - Snug the screws then close the sunroof.
- With the sunroof closed, look at the top of the car and align the sunroof so it will be flush with the skin of the roof of the car.
- Once you have the sunroof in place, tighten the 4 screws that hold
it in place. WARNING: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE
SCREWS OR YOU WILL STRIP OUT THE HOLE WITH THE THREADS.
You can reach under the roof to tighten the screws while you make sure it is level with the roof. - Install the screw covers.
